Day two - and lots of waiting

Day 2 wasn't the gangbuster day yesterday was, but it wasn't a complete standstill either. Violet and I did get to go for a walk, though we only went out for 15 minutes since it was wicked windy out. I also tried the pilates video my sister does, but I have come across a glitch in the process. I watch Netflix streaming videos through the Wii and right now I only have it connect through my wireless modem. There are a good many times it pauses the video so that it can 'retrieve.' This causes me to wait... and wait... and wait. I lose my ambition just a little bit each time this happens, but I try to keep up my heart rate by marching in place. But this gets old. Now my plan is to preview whatever video I can 'Watch Instantly' and throw it on my queue so that I can actually pop the DVD in the player.

Tomorrow will be dedicated to trying out exercises from the magazine clippings I've collected over the years.

Day of hodgepodge

Day One went alright. I tried a little bit of all sorts of different things, though I still have to work on my timing with Violet's feedings and naptimes. I only got to ease myself into things, but I think the day went in a positive direction.

I started off pulling clips from YouTube of possible routines involving the exercise ball. I want to get some good examples for ab crunches, leg lifts and back work. I was able to find a few and I was even able to do a couple. One routine would have left me falling flat on my face time and again, so I'll build up to that one. Here are a couple I sampled:

I even tried some stuff with the dumbbells:

I was also inspired by something my sister mentioned to me last week and looked up some of the 'Watch Instantly' videos off of Netflix. Because Violet started getting fussy at this point, I just watched "Dance Off the Inches: 15-Minute Express" and "Crunch: CardioSalsa" only to see if I could follow the moves. The prospects look good.

After I calmed down Violet with a feeding and a diaper change, I decided a walk would do us both good. We walked for about an hour and I felt alright afterwards. Violet felt nothing but the sleepies and she napped the rest of the afternoon.

I have yet to dive into the pile of clippings of exercises I've been collecting from years of fashion magazines. I think that'll be tomorrow's project.

Hopefully I'll figure out the best arrangement of events to maximize my day. At the end of today, I feel pretty satisfied.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

I have finally decided to get serious about working out. And being that I don't have a personal trainer, and I'm not that shy about sharing embarrassing details, I figured the best way to track my progress and press forward was to keep a public diary of my exercise trials and tribulations.

I have not kept a regular exercise routine since having to do the Wellness class in high school PE. And even then, I was only somewhat successful because I was trying to keep pace with a guy who was crazy dedicated to working out. That was the one and only year I remember having any definition to my arms.

It was only 3 short years ago that I was weighing at 125. After having a desk job (with no supplemental job at the bookstore that gave me a day to day workout with lifting boxes of books and walking all over the store), living in Tennessee where I ate far too many things that only added inches to my figure AND having a baby, I am now clocking in at 174. I do know that during my pregnancy, I went a little too buck-wild on having ice cream again. There was something strange that went on while I was pregnant with Violet that caused my former lactose intolerance to disappear and I became enthusiastic friends with Ben and Jerry once more. HUGE downfall.

But now I aim to lose as much as I possibly can so that I can fit into a decent sized wedding gown at the celebration we want to have with the large group of people who we didn't get to invite to our ceremony last July.

The equipment I have to help me on my endeavor, other than the nagging voice in my head whenever I try to put on clothes, is the following:
  • exercise ball with base
  • yoga mat
  • Yoga Workout for Dummies DVD
  • Denise Austin Fit & Firm Pregnancy (which apparently has something for post-pregnancy)
  • two 5 lb dumbbells
  • iPod
  • Netflix on the Wii
  • Skechers Tone Up sneakers
  • stroller and a baby who should be aired out as much as her Mommy
I will be posting my weight once a week to help me track what's going on. I will also be posting the exercise routines I find on YouTube so that I can find them easily and possibly share with whomever is reading my new blog.

Any helpful suggestions on any of this will be received with open, and hopefully sore, arms.

Let's see how successful I am at this experiment.
